Review: Juan Magan – The King Is Back Vol. 1

The King Is Back Juan Magan

If Juan Magan’s new album were a piece of musical candy it would be Latin-Pop sprinkled with EDM a few pieces dipped in Merengue Electronico.

The ‘EDM’ tracks were kind of lacking if you like new cutting edge sounds; the melodies sounded as if they were just copied and pasted from a pre-made sound library and basically sounded like pop. The crossover of using Spanish and English, or Spanglish, was a unique touch on some EDM tracks like “Falling In Love (ft. Zion & Lennox)” which saved them from complete mediocrity but, again, it sounded Pop-like.

The album wasn’t all bad, the Merengue Electronico or Electronic merengue songs were on point. My personal favorite was “Si No Te Quisiera” which was a bit of a surprise. Belinda, which is normally known for her borderline mediocre pop music, and Lapiz Conciente, a hard hitting Dominican rapper, are both featured artists on it, which seems kind of odd at first but, they come together relatively well. The chorus on this track is what puts it over the top; the catchy-ness, the rhythm and the shear dance-ability of the track collectively make “Si No Te Quisiera” the must have song on this album along with the track with Maffio, “Tentandome” Farruko also hopped on the album with “Como El Viento” which has some pop and Kuduro elements that make the track a radio hit.

Review: RealBeanz Iced Coffee with Coconut Water

RealBeaz has released a ready-to-drink iced coffee drink made with Coconut water. Although the combination may seem a bit odd, the dark rich flavor of the coffee combines well with the light and sweet Coconut water for a unique iced coffee experience.

The coconut water adds a noticeable yet subtle flavor to the coffee which at first may catch you by surprise but, after a few sips the different flavor notes come together really well. In addition to making the drink tastier, the coconut water makes the iced coffee very refreshing.

Out of their new flavors, I found that the Cappuccino and Caramel Iced Coffees tasted the best as they worked well with the coconut water. Although the coffee can be drank straight out of the bottle, there’s nothing like drinking iced coffee out of a cup with a couple ice cubes.

RealBeanz Iced Coffees are available nationwide; you can find local retailers on their website.

Review: Daddy Yankee @ Echostage

IMG_3257

Event: Daddy Yankee @ Echostage – July 18, 2014 –

Puerto Rican ‘Reggaetonero’, Daddy Yankee, performed at one of Washington DC’s premier venues, Echostage. Traditionally Echostage is a hub for Electronic music shows but, last Friday it was home to one of the best Reggaetoneros in the game.

MORE PHOTOS

The night began pretty bad to say the least; the opening DJs didn’t know what to play with the crowd booing at times and even a commercial being played on the Echostage LED wall — all of which were failures by the promoters of the event. Luckily, Daddy Yankee was able to save the night. Daddy Yankee opened with what boosted his career onto the international stage, and we all know it, “Gasolina” in honor of 10 years since the release of his album “Barrio Fino” As the night went on, the crowd completely forgot the failures of the opening acts and sang along to just about every song.

Video:

The crowd was surprisingly diverse; fans from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and ethnic groups — it was nice to see how Reggaeton has globalized beyond just the Latin market. What made the night most enjoyable was how the fans knew every song; it didn’t matter whether it was old or new, the crowd danced and sang the night away. My only grievance is that Daddy Yankee didn’t perform, “Gangsta Zone”, which was one of my personal favorites from Barrio Fino En Directo. Even though he didn’t perform my favorite throwback song, overall, the night was memorable and one of my favorite Reggaeton concerts as of today.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs W&W – Waves (Tomorrowland 2014 Anthem)

Dimitri & Vegas Waves W&W Tomorrowland 2014 anthem

Another Tomorrowland Anthem from Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike!

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and W&W have finally release the track that you most likely heard at least a couple times at Tomorrowland 2014, “Waves” The big room track is not necessarily a trail-brazer when it comes to originality but, the melody is definitely something that will stick in your head if you listen to it. I personally enjoyed the change up in the melody near the end, it was a nice touch and an ear-palette cleanser.

“Waves” is now available on Beatport.

Tony Junior & Baggi Begovic – Plur Warriors

Plur Warriors

Break out the fake Native American apparel and feathers (like the ones in the cover), Tony Junior and Baggi Begovic’s new release will bring out the Plur Warrior in all of us.

The Doorn records release, “Plur Warriors”, is a mix between Big Room and Latin with heavy Tribal elements that give the track a nice feel. Like Knife Party, I think this track sound great but, the sample isn’t all that. The general feel of the song makes up for the sample, which tries too much to be like “Wakanda” from Dimitri Mike & Like Vegas.

Borgore’s “Ratchet” Video Makes Aliens Explode

SLIGHT NSFW:

Borgore has released the music video to his track, “Ratchet” Although the music video’s production quality didn’t take after the song’s name with some cool special effects and make-up, the video was just flat out disturbing. At first, it wasn’t bad but, I lost it near the end.

Note: No Real Aliens Were Hurting In The Making Of This Video

Hardwell Denies Working with One Direction

Hardwell One Direction

Posts were floating around on the interwebz saying Hardwell made a song with One Direction, which wouldn’t be too surprising since it would be the ultimate commercial track. Hardwell quickly jumped on Twitter denying rumors of a collaboration with UK boy band, One Direction (Below).

Post on Reddit reffered to this as the song:

W&W and Headhunterz Bring Us Big Room Hardstyle with “Shocker”

W&W & Headhunterz - Shocker

W&W announced a Hardstyle track awhile ago but, the wait is now over… well kind of.

The duo teamed up with Hardstyle producer Headhunterz to create “Shocker”, a House track with a Hardstyle kick “Housestyle” When I first heard of the collab, I imagined something like this but, not as slow. The overall sound of “Shocker” is insane (I personally enjoyed it), it’ll be a hit at Festivals and shows for whoever plays it but, Hardstyle fans might have a hard time accepting this track. In essence, it’s a Big Room track powered by Hardstyle — a great transitional track for those accustomed to everyday EDM wanting to get into Hardstyle.

Still no word on the exact release date.
