Charli XCX Releases An ASTR Remix of “Boom Clap”

Charli Xcx Boom Clap ASTR Remix

Charli XCX, whose voice you’ve probably heard at least once or twice on the radio every hour, has released a remix of her single, “Boom Clap”, which is currently in the top 40 of Billboard’s “Hot 100” The remix was produced by ASTR, a New York City based producer who has worked with Big KRIT, Neon Trees and other notable artists in the past.

“Boom Clap” on iTunes featured on “The Fault in Our Stars” Movie Soundtrack

MUSIC VIDEO – “Boom Clap”

ASTR brings his unique style while still keeping some elements from the original song to the remix which combine with Charli XCX’s vocals quite well. Although this remix would technically fall under Twerk / Trap (taking advantage of the name I guess), the way the mellow melody and Charli’s vocals come together you wouldn’t realize it’s a trap remix until you hear the high hat rolls and Lex Luger climax lasers.

Still no word on when the remix will be released but, you can stream it below today!

E-Lusive & Skeets – Roll Out [Hardstyle / Trap / Freebie]

E Lusive Roll Out

E-Lusive and Skeets roll out with their new single, “Roll Out”, a Hardstyle track straight out the trap house! What I really enjoyed about the song is that, besides being a free download, the Hardstyle kick isn’t watered down or crappy — its actually quite nice. The trap section reminds me a lot of Baauer’s early trap style and blends in well with the Hardstyle drops too.

“Roll Out” is a great track for those who need a high energy song in their music library or that extra push at the gym. Download it today!

Review: Moska – Duma EP (2014)

Moska Brazil

Moska was not shy on merging various genres into single tracks with this EP. From Moombahton to Big Room and even a little Bounce and Tech house elements this three track EP is jam packed full of genres. What I really enjoyed about the EP was how Moska went about merging all these styles without it feeling ‘boxed’, everything just flowed so well you won’t even notice when those hips will begin to move.

Buy exclusively on Beatport

My personal favorite was the track for which the EP is named, “Duma” Although at times it does have a Big Room house sound, Moska didn’t over do it. The melody was like listening to 8-bit Punta or similar Afro-Latin tropical sounds — it’s a great merge of Electronic and Tropical Latin sounds. Moska really took advantage of his Colombian background on this track. If you don’t want to buy the whole EP, I would recommend “Duma” as a must have.

Tough Love Release Their Upbeat Deep House Track “Dreams”

Tough Love 'Dreams' artwork (low res)

London based producers, Tough Love, have come out with their latest single, “Dreams” The upbeat Deep House tune is a perfect Summer release; great vibes and a melody that you can dance on the beach to.

If upbeat Deep House isn’t your thing and want something more laid back and chill, Audiowhores have remixed the single to suit your needs. Out of the three remixes that form part of the release, my favorite has to be Amtrac’s remix with a faster paced funky melody that puts it over the top.

The single and the remixes are currently available on Beatport and will be up on iTunes later this month on July 21, 2014.

Review: Audiotricz Present: Infinite Vol. 1

Audiotricz Infinite EP

With a little more than a year in the game, Audiotricz, have released their first compilation album, “Infinite Vol.1” The album features tracks from a wide range of producers like Coone, TNT, Noisecontrollers and many others. Two of my personal favorite tracks on this compilation are Code Black and Atmozfears’ “Accelerate” and Audiotricz’ “Momentum”, both tracks with great vocals and amazing hardstyle instrumentals that come together so well.

WIN A FREE COPY TODAY! – ENDS 07/09/2014

Buying music can get expensive, especially if you’re a music lover but, Audiotricz’ compilation comes in as a steal with 22 tracks and a continuous mix for just $9.99 which translates to about $0.43 per song. If you love Hardstyle and enjoy seeing green numbers on your bank statement, Audiotricz’ compilation album is a must have.

Rakim (RKM) Injured In Fight [Developing]

Rakim Injury Corillo Magazine Exclusive

Around 2:00AM EST on July 7th, Jose Nieves better known as Reggaetonero, Rakim or RKM, uploaded a selfie of himself showing an injury to the side of his eye. He accompanies the image with the following caption:

“I look like this and you knocked out. [Someone] pick him up. We are ready. Don’t get confused and [we won’t] get sidetracked, you [all ready] know hahaha”

The post was immediately met with comments from concerned fans and a small number of friends who asked about the picture. Rakim replied arrogantly replying with comments implying he knocked out his “opponent” saying “look for him, he’s laid out” and then confirming with a comment reading “Nockkoautt (Knockout)”

We have reached out asking for more information but, no reply as of yet. After taking down the original photo, RKM posted a photo of himself in a boxing outfit — seemed more of a calender-like photoshoot than action shots from an actual match. This photo has also been taken down. More information will be posted as we get it.

Review: Ivy Queen Ft. J Alvarez – No Hay (Remix)

nohay

After a long irregular absence in the scene, Ivy Queen is back with a remix of a two year old track “No Hay” Although it is old, the addition of J Alvarez really gives the song new life. J Alvarez’ unique singing style combined with Ivy Queen’s equally unique style come together relatively well. The only issue I had was that this featuring could of been used for a new single, rather than using it on an old song.

Review: Zion & Lennox Ft. Nicky Jam & J Balvin – Solo Tu (Remix)

Solo Tu (Official Remix) Zion

Veteran duo Zion & Lennox call on Nicky Jam and Colombian Reggaetonero, J Balvin for their remix of “Solo Tu” As the title can imply, the track is a Romantic Reggaeton track. The chorus to “Solo Tu” is the catchiest part of the whole song giving the song that “sticky” factor that makes songs successful. Nicky Jam’s verse is a mix of his styles; rapping and singing which is a nice touch for what the song is trying to aim at. My favorite part of the remix was when Zion and J. Balvin, who both have great voices, came together to sing a little part of the chorus which was a nice touch.

Review: Farruko Ft. Sean Paul & Wisin – Passion Whine (Remix)

Passion Whine Cover

Farruko and Sean Paul call up Wisin for the remix of “Passion Whine”, a slow tempoed latin-tropical track great for dancing closely. Not much changed besides the addition of Wisin, which isn’t a bad featuring. Wisin’s borderline screaming style is counteracted well by his soft singing portion which saves the remix from killing the original feel of the song. Overall, the remix of “Passion Whine” would be a great addition to anyone’s music library especially for those summer sunset one on one dances.

Dada Life Teases Their New Single “One Smile”

One Smile Dada Life

We first heard this track at a Dada Life show a few months ago in Washington, D.C. and the crowd at Echostage loved it! The only difference between this version and the version played at the show is the non-filtered vocal part, although okay it wasn’t really necessary — it already sounded great without it. The song is set to release on July 15th, 2014.

Party Ideas For USA vs Belgium World Cup Game: Food, Drinks & Music

Although the game is on at an awkward time; a Tuesday at 4pm days before the Fourth of July, it’s still a good excuse for a little watching party. Here are a few tips for the important game on July 1st, 2014 on ESPN and Univision.

Drinks:
You can’t have a party without drinks. Beer and coke is always a minimum must have but, here are some creative drinks that have a little summer in the USA flavor to them.

Cherry Lime Mojito

Cherry Limeade Mojito

Ingredients:
4 oz. Cherry Limeade Sparkling ICE
1.5 oz. White Rum
10 Mint leaves (plus a few more for garnish)
6 Cherries (stems and pits removed)
Lime slices for garnish

Directions:
In a large, sturdy glass, muddle together the mint and cherries until lightly-smashed
Stir in the rum and then top with Cherry Limeade Sparkling ICE over ice. Stir gently to mix.
Garnish with fresh cherries, mint leaves, and lime slices.

Strawberry Basil Lemonade (Trust me it’s good)

strawberry-basil-lemonade-1

Ingredients:
1 cup strawberries, destemmed and hulled
1 cup (8 ounces) fresh squeezed juice (I used 4 very large lemons)
1/2 cup simple syrup (or sugar to your liking)
3 cups cold water
1 lemon, washed and sliced into 1/4-inch slices
1 cup loosely packed basil leaves

Directions:
Purée the strawberries with about 1/4 cup of the lemon juice in a blender on high speed until smooth, about 1 minute. Strain the purée through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher.
Add the rest of your lemon juice, the simple syrup, water, lemon slices and basil leaves. Stir to incorporate. Chill for at least one hour before serving.

Tip: DON’T crush the basil leaves, it may overpower the drink.

Food:
The game is what people come for but, the food is what people stay for. The game will be in the mid-afternoon so you can either make a lot of appetizers and snacks, a nice dinner for post-game or a little of both. Burgers are must for a good ol’ ‘Murican foods and Mussels are a must (if you’re not allergic) for the Belgian side of things. Belgium consumes so many Mussels that an average of 3 kilograms of them are consumed per person per year!

Classic Cheeseburger:

Cheeseburger

Ingredients (Serves 6)
2 pounds freshly ground chuck, (80/20 or 90/10 for health freaks)
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
12 slices deli-counter American cheese
6 large burger buns, toasted if desired

Directions:
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, onion powder, salt and pepper until just combined. Do not overmix, or your patties will be tough.
Divide into six portions and form patties, without pressing too hard. They should be uniform in thickness. Smooth out any cracks using your fingers. Make these right before you grill them, so they stay at room temperature.
Preheat your grill, grill pan or cast-iron skillet to high heat and add burger patties. If using a grill, cover with the lid.
Cook until the crust that forms on the bottom of the burger releases it from the pan or grate — about 2 minutes. Gently test, but don’t flip it until it gets to this point. When burgers lift up easily, flip, add two slices of cheese to each, close lid if using a grill, and cook on the other side for another 2-3 minutes for medium to medium rare.
Remove burgers with a sturdy metal spatula and transfer to a plate. Allow to rest for several minutes, then transfer to buns.
Garnish as desired and serve immediately.

Belgian Mussels w/ Steak Fries:

Belgian Mussels

Ingredients:
1kg fresh mussels (or Frozen if fresh isn’t available)
3 large spring onions
1 large shallot, peeled and halved
1 carrot, peeled and halved lengthways
2 fat garlic cloves, peeled
1 fresh red chilli
1 bunch thyme
handful flat-leaf parsley
100ml olive oil
about 150ml dry white wine (ideally Muscadet)
1 tsp Pernod
2 tbsp crème fraîche

Directions:
Tip the mussels into a large bowl of cold water. Discard any that remain open when tapped, then drain well and pull away any ‘beards’. (Fresh mussels look black and shiny and should only smell pleasantly of the deep sea – the vast majority should be tightly closed. Avoid any that smell ‘fishy’, look dry or are mostly open.)
Thinly slice the vegetables and garlic. Roll the chili in your hands to loosen the seeds, then slit in half and shake out the seeds. Slice the flesh into thin sticks, then stack together and finely chop. Pick over the thyme sprigs, discarding the thick stalks, and pick the parsley leaves from the stalks. Prepare the chips (see recipe, below right).
Place a large, heavy-based sauté pan (with a lid) on the hob and heat until you can feel a strong heat rising. Pour in the oil, then immediately toss in all of the vegetables, chilli and thyme. The thyme sprigs will crackle if the pan is hot enough. Cook for about 1½ mins, shaking the pan and stirring the vegetables until they start to wilt.
With the heat still on high, toss in all the mussels and shake the pan so they form an even layer. Cover with a lid and cook for another 1-2 mins, shaking the pan once or twice.
Uncover the pan and pour in the wine and Pernod. Shake and cook for another 1½ mins so the wine reduces by half, then cover again and cook for another min. Place a large colander over a bowl and tip the mussels and vegetables into the centre. Discard any mussels that remain closed. Fry the chips or buy them premade from your local grocery store.
Pour the strained liquid back in the pan, reheat and stir in the crème fraîche and whole parsley leaves. Check the seasoning; you may not need any salt. Return the mussels and vegetables to the pan and reheat, shaking the pan, then divide between two large soup bowls. Serve the chips and mayonnaise (recipe below) alongside.
TIP: Make the mayo and prepare the chips before you start the mussels. Fry the chips after you have cooked the mussels and while they are still draining in the colander, then finish the sauce.
