Miguelito Is Still Going At It

Miguelito-Post

Do you remember the little kid the made a track with Daddy Yankee back in the day? Well, he is still making music as a 15 year old teen.

Miguelito brings us his track “Suga Suga”, an adaptation of a classic featuring Boy II Men member, Shawn Stockman. It is as catchy as the original but, sadly the adaptation is a mediocre play on popular Avicii-style-EDM meets pop — in other words is a radio hit. Most people will enjoy the song, it is catchy and danceable but, for those who look for something deeper in the music they listen to, this song isn’t for them.

Miguelito is a talented young individual with potential to become a great artist one day but, from what I can see, he needs to break free from whatever mold his label or he wants to fit. He is still young and music changes everyday but, going with the flow and doing what everyone else is doing is just not good music. It is a plague that has haunted music forever but, those who break away from that with something fresh and new are the ones who are destined to be successful.

AJ “El Kallejero” Of La Mega Radio Is On His Way To The Top

AJ Ramos of La Mega Radio 97.9 Represents the Next Generation of Latin Power Executives

AJLaMega1-300x300

Last week we caught up with Roberto Castillo, one of the quiet movers and shakers in the radio and entertainment industry.  We were talking about the political and buying power of the Latin population because they are now the largest minority in the U.S.  Their buying power is growing each day, but what we did not understand is why a lot of U.S. companies were hesitant or just not savvy enough to take advantage of this hot growing demographic.  While having this very important discussion we started talking about the many global opportunities for minorities and the “World Cup” came up in the conversation.  He informed us about the role Mega would be playing and how we may be able to work together to cover the games.  This sounded like a hot networking opportunity so he asked the station’s point man for the project to come down and meet with us.  After talking to this skilled and gifted brother, who just had so much going on, we felt a genuine need to do this interview and let him tell his story to the world.

Interview of AJ Ramos of La Mega Radio

Q– What going on my man?

A—I’m good thank you for the interview; I respect the Source a lot.

Q– Where were you born and now reside?

A—I was born in Jersey City, NJ and live in New York.  I also lived in Las Vegas for two years doing radio.

Q– I understand your family is from El Salvador, what is life like over there?

A—Yes, my family is from El Salvador.  Like in every third world country poverty, violence and corruption is taking over.  The percentage rate of secondary and higher education is declining.  You have to be careful there are a lot of kidnappings.

Q– There are a few violent gangs in the U.S. from El Salvador, what brought this about?

A—This is something I rather not talk too much about.  But the violent gangs in El Salvador basically run the country and let’s just say I guess they call it expansion.

Q– How did you get started in radio?

A—It’s a crazy story.  When something is meant to be, it is meant to be.  I was leaving the COPA CABANA on 34th street.  Thursday nights were 18 to party and I was 20 years old.  Some gorgeous blonde lady approaches my friend outside the club and asked him what he thought about the radio station.  He straight up started kicking it to her.  I answered the question as I was babysitting my boy.  I then went back to the car.  I saw the radio station as a vehicle to success so I went to the promo truck and asked them how can I get a job?  The driver tells me to wait for his boss.  The boss ended up being the gorgeous blonde.  The rest is history.  At the moment, I was pursuing a career as a lawyer and got accepted to Rutgers into the pharmacy program.  LOL.  Go figure.

Farruko Working with MML (Maybach Music Latino)

Farruko MMG Latino MML

Ever since Rick Ross named a new president to his Spanish division of Maybach Music, Spiff, Maybach Music Latino (MML) has started to work with relevant Latin urban artists. Previously, we reported that Jory, former member of duo Nova & Jory, was working with MML. Now, Farruko is working with them. As seen in the picture above, Farruko is accompanied by Gucci Pucci, his manager and Spiff (from left to right) during a MML dinner meeting.

We expect a cross-over mixtape or collaborations later this year.

How To: Make Dominican Dembow [Funny]

Dominican Dembow is a genre very popular in the Dominican Republic that involves old school Reggaeton samples with usually a verse or two to accompany it.

The production quality is usually low; it is easy to make, takes very little writing skills and it can be made just in minutes — still a catchy genre to listen to. This young YouTuber shows us how to make Dominican Dembow and at the same time satirizing it.

Documentary: The Chosen Few Urbano – The Journey Continues

Fairfax, VA – Chosen Few brings us a well put together documentary on what Latin Urban music is. It shows that it is not just a dembow loop, but a combination of various sounds, lifestyles and cultures that mix to create a movement that expands passed political borders and creates a unifying music that connects latinos around the world.

Whether you like Latin Urban music or not, its a pretty interesting documentary into the world of Latin Urban music that started “big” in Puerto Rico then expanded dramatically around Latin America and then the world.
