Washington, D.C. – Latin Grammy-winning band Bajofondo announce they will tour throughout North America in March and April in support of their forthcoming album Presente due out March 5 on Sony Masterworks. The band creates the contemporary sound of the Rio de La Plata, the river that separates and unites Argentina and Uruguay. Their inimitable sound uses the region’s rich musical legacy of tango, folklore, and milonga as a foundation for their genre-defying compositions that fearlessly cross-pollinate them with other styles. On stage, Bajofondo’s eight members use traditional instruments like bandoneón alongside live video mixing, samples, and scratches to spellbinding effect. The North American tour is a chance to see one of the most acclaimed live acts in the world that recently drew hundreds of thousands at an outdoor performance in Buenos Aires.
Bajofondo have just released the video for Presente’s lead single “Pide Piso” yesterday exclusively on MTV Iggy & Terra.com in the U.S. The video was directed by the band founder and producer Gustavo Santaolalla. The animated video imagines the track as a 1980s 8-bit video game with romance on the streets of Latin America at its heart.
Presente is an epic 21-track high-energy tour de force that blends a multitude of traditionally dichotomous genres seamlessly. Gustavo Santaolalla, winner of a Golden Globe, 2 Oscars, 2 Grammys, and 12 Latin Grammys, describes the album as “a trip that takes you from the most magical to the most epic urban moments.”
Presente is Bajofondo as you’ve never heard it before! Unlike previous efforts that dropped energetic dance floor bombs from the get-go, the new album opens on a low-key, string-based note: it’s the mysterious beginning of a brand new Bajofondo trip that takes the listener to the high-octane energy of its live shows and its ingenious experimentation in the studio. The production team of Santaolalla and guitarist Juan Campodónico have once again captured the common links and individual features of the music found on both sides of the river, but this time on a decidedly international approach that turned Presente into BAJOFONDO’s most ambitious album to date.
